Music

“Christ always invites us, however, to enter into song, to rise above our own preoccupations, and to give our entire selves to the hymn of his Paschal Sacrifice for the honor and glory of the Most Blessed Trinity.” –Sing to the Lord, no. 14.

Welcome to Music Ministry at St. Michael. We invite you to join in this important ministry within the Liturgy.  As music ministers, we are called to lead and enter into song with the congregation. We invite the assembly to join as one in glorifying God through music. Please consider sharing your musical gifts with our St. Michael community.

Joining Music Ministry

There are several ways one can join in our music ministry community: as a cantor, accompanist/instrumentalist or choir/group member.

Choir Member:  Our choir is returning in September and if you have considered joining in the past, now is the time to join! The choir sings at 11am Mass the second Sunday of the month September-May. This is a non-audition group; all skill levels are welcome. Rehearsals are the two Thursday evenings before Sunday Mass. Click here for the choir schedule.

Cantors: Cantors are scheduled on a rotation. These individuals feel comfortable singing before a congregation by his or herself with an accompanist.

Accompanists/Instrumentalists:

Accompanists are important in leading and sustaining the music for the voices. Instrumentalists add to the music and elevate the worship. Instrumentalists, pianists and organists who would like to serve are encouraged to contact us.

Schola:  The St. Michael Schola is an auditioned group which specializes in chant and polyphony. The schola sings at various liturgies throughout the year. This group requires learning difficult music by oneself; ability to read music is highly recommended.
