Another option for religious formation is our family formation program. As the name implies, this program has the family as its main focus. Families enrolled in family formation are asked to come to one Saturday session a month. This session immediately follows Saturday evening Mass. We share a meal and each family is asked to bring a side dish or dessert while the parish provides the meat. After the meal, the children are broken into two groups according to age. Each group has a lesson taught to them by an adult assisted by middle school and high school aged children. The parents/guardians and Fr. Aaron will gather to discuss the four lessons that the parents will teach at home to their children on a weekly basis. The lessons are very simple to complete at home even if the adults have no training in teaching. All the materials are provided for families even if there is a craft project. Fr. Aaron will discuss the lessons and their topics to help the adults feel more at ease as they discuss the lessons with their children. The program really helps families talk about God with one another and helps to put parents and guardians at the front of their child’s religious education. It helps the families learn and pray together. If a family has a child who will receive First Communion this year, additional lessons and materials are provided for them. Families with Confirmation aged children will still need to have them attend Wednesday night classes.
Fees: $50 for 1 student; $90 for 2 students; $120 for 3 or more students. Fees are due by October 1, 2017. No one is ever denied religious education because of an inability to pay fees. Please contact Fr. Aaron if these fees are a hardship or special arrangements need to be made. The materials for each child in the program actually cost $80. If you are able to afford it, please consider making an additional donation to the program to help offset the parish cost even it’s over the course of the year. No additional fees will be charged for sacraments.
Depending upon the numbers in our family formation program, we may have multiple Saturdays that will be offered. Normally these Saturdays are the first two of the month, however, because of holidays this could change. These dates are located on the back. Please help us plan and let us know if you are able to attend that month and which one you plan to attend. If your family cannot make it for some reason please feel free to contact Fr. Jenkins to meet with him so that he can go over the material with an adult. Please remember to bring a side dish for the meal. Meat will be provided by the parish.
