Knights of Columbus

The Knights of Columbus is a fraternal benefit society of nearly 2 million Catholic men and thier families thorughout the world, united in service to our Catholic Church, our communities, parishes, schools, neighborhoods and the many in need, on our own streets or across the world.  United as brothers, we practice our faith in action and service, one act of charity at a time.

Our Order was founded in 1882 by Venerable Michael McGivney, an American priest whose cause for sainthood is being considered by the Catholic Church.  As Knights, we are charged to live out the four principles he left us:  charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism.

The St. John Neumann Council 10713 Knights of Columbus is affiliated with the parish of St. Michael Catholic Church.  We are a network of men in communities around the world dedicated to the service of God and our neighbor.  As a Knight, you have the opportunity to support our parish, give back to oour community, grow in your faith and gain exclusive access to our top-rated insurance program to protect your family.

Council business meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month at 7 pm in the St. Michael Church Parish Office meeting room #1.

A social meeting is held once each quarter with the time and location announced in advance in our church bulletin and email. This meeting is open to anyone, including spouses. If someone is interested in the K of C, this is the meeting to attend.

If you would like more information, please contact our Recorder, Dan Wierda, 317-622-2079 or drwierda@gmail.com. You can also visit the national Knights of Columbus website for information about membership and to join online.

All the good works we do are informed by our four core principles:

  • Charity – Our Catholic faith teaches us to “Love thy neighbor as thyself.” Members of the Knights of Columbus show love for their neighbors by conducting food drives and donating the food to local soup kitchens and food pantries, by volunteering at Special Olympics, and by supporting, both spiritually and materially, mothers who choose life for their babies.
  • Unity – None of us is as good as all of us. Members of the Knights of Columbus all know that – together – we can accomplish far more than any of us could individually.
  • Fraternity – The Order’s top-rated insurance program continues to do this today, as do individual Knights, who last year gave more than 10 million hours of their time to assist sick and/or disabled members and their families. In the Knights of Columbus, we watch out for and take care of one another.
  • Patriotism – We are proud of our devotion to God and country, and believe in standing up for both. Whether it’s in public or private, the Knights remind the world that Catholics support their nations and are amongst the greatest citizens.
